On the 14th of January, the Gr. 8’s and their parents were invited to attend the annual Orientation Day. Siyambulela Ngoma and Sibonisiwe Cakwebe began with scripture reading and prayer, after which Nqaba Laxa and Asemahle Geelbooi introduced the principal, Mr van Brouwershaven. The principal welcomed the parents, introduced himself to the learners and motivated them to follow the school rules, stay out of trouble and be friends with learners their own age.
Representatives of each sport and culture code gave the new learners information about each activity.
The Assistant Gradehead, Mr Jonck, had a clear and simple message: “Give me hassles, and I will give you hassles.”
Mrs Smit, the Gradehead, gave the learners a short summary of the school rules and assured the parents that she will be their child’s mother at school.
Afterwards the learners and their parents were taken on a tour through the school building and workshops where the technical educators provided them with subject-related information.
Then, on 17 January, the prefects accompanied the grade 8’s to the sports grounds for the annual Adventure Day. The purpose of the day was for the new learners to get to know one another by playing games and taking part in team building activities. The Grade 8’s were challenged to go out of their comfort zones and enjoyed making friends in an adventurous way!
