It is well known that for the past 3 to 4 seasons, the first team has struggled to start the season on a high. Looks like Mr Schuin and Mr Kapp are determined to change that this year, because their 2019 first XV began the season with a bang.
The season kicked off on the 13th of April against Cillie, who defeated them in the previous season. The boys showed how determined they were to turn the tables by winning 19-5.
They then went on to play against Alexander Road High School on their home turf on the 24th of April. It was a thrilling game between the old foes.As proof, the game ended in a 17-all draw.
On the 11th of May, they played against Westering High School at one of the school’s biggest derbies. Westering was having a good day against the other sides, therefore the pressure was on once again for the First XV. The big boys arrived guns blazing, but Westering was up for the fight. It was a fantastic game of rugby and the First XV came out on top with a nailbiting 19-15 victory.
Although they lost the game against DF on the 18th of May, we still believe that our first team has what it takes! – Nande Plaatjie
